[Late Ming military industry | No System | Court intrigue | From the start of the Jisi Crisis | Build guns to fight the Jin | Careful, steady progress]
In the second year of the Chongzhen reign, the Jisi Crisis erupts. Later Jin cavalry break through the passes, and the frontier teeters on the brink of disaster.
Chen Rui transmigrates into the body of a despised, down-on-his-luck good-for-nothing young master from the Xuanfu garrison. He has no power or influence, only an old, rusted matchlock to his name. But his mind holds an entire modern education in military engineering: flintlock rifles, granulated gunpowder, bastion fortifications, and linear tactics!
Who says Ming firearms are useless? That’s because you don’t understand industry!
Chen Rui quietly improves the matchlock. A shot from a hundred paces away knocks down a flagpole, astounding the generals at the frontier. Starting as a humble blacksmith in a border garrison, he builds flintlock rifles, establishes his own arsenal, mass-produces new firearms, trains a powerful army, defeats the Eight Banners, and suppresses internal rebellion.
With sheer, hard-won ability, he earns the respect of the entire Ming court and wins the Chongzhen Emperor’s trust.
The Chongzhen Emperor says with tears in his eyes, “My dear Chen, as long as you keep the guns and cannons coming, my Ming dynasty can fight for another three hundred years!”
Dorgon stares at the Eight Banners’ elite troops, shot full of holes. “Damn it! Since when did the Ming army have such powerful firearms? This can’t be possible!”
Hong Taiji laments in terror, “If we don’t surrender, Shengjing will fall and our dynasty’s lifeline will be cut. How could I ever face my ancestors again?”
Li Zicheng sighs up at the sky. “If there’s a Prince of Shun, why must there also be a Chen Rui? Still, if this Chen fellow can make sure the common people have enough to eat, what’s so bad about joining him?”
He will use firearms to conquer an age of chaos and military industry to save a collapsing dynasty. Watch Chen Rui carve out a path to victory, armed with modern weapons and determined to secure the empire, amid the turmoil of the late Ming dynasty!
He won’t just reclaim Liaodong. He’ll send Ming cavalry sweeping across the northern deserts and dispatch fleets on expeditions to the Western Ocean! He’ll make the great powers of Europe bow in submission, force Japan and Korea to pay tribute, and plant the Ming banner in every corner of the world!
Except for the issue about Yuan Dudu that needs to be considered, there are no flaws and it is still worth watching. Except when he was imprisoned, Yuan Dudu did not enter the city, and there was no matter of guarding the city wall. He was guarding the gate outside the city. This place needs some repairs. Yuan Dudu misled Chongzhen and made a strategic mistake. He first suffered the people, raised taxes three times, and then reduced taxes after regaining Liaodong. Comparing it with the early Han Dynasty, you can see how wrong it is. It is right to look inside first and then outside, and trade time for opportunities. Yuan Dudu's tactic is to defend the city. If he is not out in the field, he can regain the lost territory and simply to lure the emperor. Yuan Dudu refused to support North Korea and Mongolia (even with verbal encouragement), which caused the external environment of Ming and South Korea to deteriorate rapidly. His mistakes directly caused Chongzhen to fall into the mud and be unable to extricate himself.
