The Mountain Roads I've Traveled

In the autumn of 1983, a crackdown swept through a mountain city in southwest China. Hooligans and criminal gangs were wiped out, and social order returned, but the lives of some ordinary people were changed overnight. Chen Ping, a young man from a machinery factory, was punished for intimate behavior with his girlfriend that had come to light during a review of his past, and was sentenced to three years of reeducation through labor. Meng Fan, who had always kept his nose clean, was handcuffed without warning one sunny afternoon and swept up in the crackdown. His time in reeducation through labor began, and his life plunged into an abyss.
