Su Ling, an attending physician in the ICU at Ningcheng First Hospital, is unable to feel emotions because of an affective disorder. His heart is frozen like a wintry pool, and he relies on professional reason to stand guard between life and death. On a rainy night, he saves Pei Yanzhou, the young master of the Pei family, from death after a retaliatory attack leaves him gravely wounded and with cognitive impairment following surgery.
After losing his memory, Pei Yanzhou becomes clingy and sweet, following Su Ling around every day. His awkward warmth slowly melts Su Ling's icy heart. Su Ling grows increasingly dependent on him, but when Pei Yanzhou regains his memories, he deliberately keeps his distance and leaves.
Only after discovering Su Ling's diagnosis does Pei Yanzhou understand that Su Ling was never heartless; he simply didn't know how to love. He races to the hospital and embraces him tightly, choking back tears as he promises, “I'll teach you how to love, and stay by your side for the rest of my life.”
From then on, Pei Yanzhou becomes a guiding flame of patience and a gentle boat, accompanying Su Ling out of the shadows of his emotional disorder. They save each other, turning their cold remaining years into a warmth they find in one another.
