Rise of the 85 Fishing Port: I Got Rich with a Water-Repelling Pearl

The southeastern coast, 1985. Private businesses are just beginning to emerge, and deep-sea fishing is extremely risky.

Chen Haisheng, a 20-year-old young man from a fishing village, dropped out of middle school and is heavily in debt after taking over a battered boat.

On a typhoon night, he returns to port alone, only to find the hold piled high with deep-sea kingfish. He strikes it rich overnight, drawing covetous eyes from every direction.

Fisheries inspectors come to confiscate his catch, thugs try to seize it, and his family pressures him. Danger lurks at every turn.

With a water-avoiding pearl in hand, he can predict storms and track schools of fish, turning the odds around with a single boat.

He refits his fishing vessel, builds a fleet, and braves offshore reefs and raging seas, bringing in mountains of fish.

From an iron-hulled boat to a deep-sea fleet, from a humble fisherman to an industry leader.

With a single pearl, he defies fate and rises amid raging waves.
