Siheyuan: Stealing Yu Li from the Start

Li Shangwang worked overtime until he dropped dead in his previous life. When he opened his eyes, he had landed in a courtyard compound in 1965. No parents, no job, no connections. At a courtyard meeting, everyone accused him of living off others. Lying down, he fired back at First Master, Second Master, Third Master, and Jia Zhangshi alike. When Third Master arranged a match for his son, the girl was called Yu Li. Passing by the entrance, Li Shangwang remembered how Third Master had taken out his little notebook at the courtyard meeting to calculate what he owed, so he casually ruined the blind date. Yu Li came to his door. “You ruined my blind date. How are you going to make it up to me?” Li Shangwang said, “I'll make it up to you by giving you a husband. Me.” Yu Li looked at him for three seconds. “You don't have a job. What are you going to use to marry me?” Li Shangwang said, “I have a house, meat to eat, and I've never lost even when the whole courtyard curses me. Is that enough?” Yu Li smiled. “Fine. I'll think about it.” Later, Yu Li figured it out. This man had no job, but nobody in the courtyard dared to mess with him. Lying down, he stood taller than everyone else. Later still, when the country opened up, Yu Li opened a restaurant and went into business, while Li Shangwang lounged in a wicker chair and gave her advice. Yu Li said, “Can't you get up and give me a hand?” Li Shangwang rolled over. “If I get up, who's going to help you lie back and count your money?” The hook in one sentence: The whole courtyard thinks he's useless, but while lying down, he builds the kind of life everyone envies.
