The gods abandoned the world three hundred years ago, one night.
No divine signs fell from the sky, and no thunderous war between gods shook the earth. Those lofty beings who governed the order of all things fell completely silent without warning. In their place came an endless gray fog, surging across the continent and burying civilization and order alike.
The fog was alive. It eroded reality and twisted the laws of nature, turning familiar streets into deadly forbidden zones and causing sturdy buildings to rot and collapse in silence. It stripped away memories and warped perceptions, turning loved ones who had once been by your side every day into monstrous, unrecognizable things. The peaceful lives people once knew became nightmares etched into their bones. The darkness, filth, and indescribable beings once firmly suppressed by the gods awoke in the fog and wandered through the ruins, feeding on human lives and minds.
Humanity struggled to survive in despair. Some went completely mad, sinking into the endless darkness and becoming fodder for the fog. Others cowered behind high walls, clinging to their last remaining resources, yet still unable to escape the infiltration and corruption of the strange horrors. And then there were those who willingly ventured beyond the safety zones, using their flesh as shields and their will as blades. They called themselves Night's Watch, and in the boundless darkness, they held up humanity’s last line of defense.
