The day Shen Chang’an transmigrated into the body of a good-for-nothing junior sister with five spiritual roots in the Xuanqing Sect, her senior sister pulled her aside and whispered:
“Junior sister, our sect has survived for three hundred years thanks to one word: lie low.”
The senior sister was at mid Nascent Soul, but claimed to be at Foundation Establishment. The second senior sister was at early Nascent Soul, but pretended to be at Golden Core. The sect leader, a mighty cultivator at Spirit Transformation, told everyone she had “gotten lucky and formed her Golden Core.”
Shen Chang’an got it. Everyone was putting on an act, so she’d have to play along.
But she soon discovered a problem. Five spiritual roots didn’t make her a good-for-nothing; it meant she had all five elements. While everyone else followed a single path, she could run down all five at once, absorbing spiritual energy five times faster than an ordinary cultivator. She wanted to lie low, but her cultivation wouldn’t let her.
At the sect tournament, an outer disciple insulted her senior sister. Shen Chang’an slapped him into a wall, then clutched her wrist and crouched down. “Ow, my meridians are broken.”
From the stands, her senior sister frantically gave her a thumbs-up: Nice work.
Then the demon beast tide arrived, and the defenses collapsed. Her senior sister broke her seal and swept away the demon beasts for ten miles with a single sword strike. Her second senior sister broke her seal, releasing another wave of Nascent Soul pressure. Everyone turned to Shen Chang’an.
She thought it over, then broke three layers of her seal. Two layers remained.
Later, someone asked the Xuanqing Sect leader why she had hidden her cultivation for three hundred years.
The sect leader leisurely sipped her tea. “A tree that stands out gets battered by the wind. Look at all those flashy sects. How many are left?”
This is the story of a sect full of actors who all play the pig to eat the tiger, only to discover that the junior sister is the biggest tiger of them all.
