The protagonist, Lu Yuan, is seventeen and a menial disciple of the Qingxuan Sect. Born with an ordinary body and a zero-score spiritual root test, he is assigned to feed the spirit beasts. Everyone in the sect calls him a good-for-nothing.
The day the sect is destroyed by the demonic path, the mountain-protecting formation shatters, the elders fall in battle, and the sect master self-destructs. A demonic cultivator runs Lu Yuan through the chest with a sword, leaving him to die in a pool of blood.
The instant the sword pierces his breastbone, his bones crack.
A drop of golden liquid seeps from the fractured bone. It flows through his wound into his heart, and his heart begins beating again. Then he hears a voice coming from deep within his bones.
"The first seal has been lifted. Host near death. Ordinary bones revived."
His bones were never ordinary. They were the Primordial Divine Demon Bones, sealed layer by layer.
Each seal can only be undone by making him die once.
The day the sect was destroyed, he died for the first time. The first seal was lifted, granting him the first level of the Primordial Divine Demon Body: Copper Skin.
Each subsequent death lifts another seal and grants him another divine-demon ability. After Copper Skin comes Iron Bones, then Silver Blood, then Golden Eyes.
There are nine seals in all. Nine lives. When they are spent, every seal will be lifted, and the Primordial Divine Demon will descend upon the world.
But there is a problem. He doesn't know who placed the seals. Nor does he know that every time he dies, he grows one step further from being human.
When the ninth seal is lifted, will he still be Lu Yuan?
