Murder by Household Accounts: The Concubine's Daughter Strikes Back

Shen Zhiwei was born a concubine's daughter, her fate as fickle as a floating weed. Her mother died young, her family treated her with cold indifference, and her entry into the household was nothing more than a pawn in a marriage meant to bring good fortune. She thought all she had to do for the rest of her life was keep her head down and be cautious. But one pitch-black night, she was thrust into the eye of the storm: the accounts office suddenly went up in flames, three years of ledgers were reduced to ashes, and everyone pointed the finger at her, making her the scapegoat. Faced with the mistress's cruelty, the concubines' jeers, and the servants' indifference, Shen Zhiwei refused to yield. With the words, "The accounts must be settled before I leave," she turned the situation around and won three days to audit the books.

At that moment, she was no longer a concubine's daughter to be manipulated at will, but a sharp-minded woman burdened by injustice and sworn to uncover the truth. With only a fragment of the records in hand and suspicions mounting, Shen Zhiwei moved carefully, gathering evidence in secret and peeling back the layers of intrigue and corruption within the household. She would use her wits to turn the tables on everyone who had framed her, bring the truth to light, and take her fate back into her own hands.
