I don't know what book it was spliced into... The first fifteen or sixteen chapters seemed like the same thing, but it was over when I finished it. Smashing doors turned into climbing through windows, the section chief turned into a technician, and I can't even remember which department the male protagonist is in.
Cut it. Magical drama. Except for the character name pairs. Everything else is just a matter of imagination.
