Girls have no home of their own. Like dandelion seeds, they land in fertile soil and thrive in the wind, or land in barren ground and suffer all their lives. Marriage is no salvation, and home is no safe haven. Only you can be your own shelter, your own refuge from the storm.…
I grew up in a family that favored boys over girls. I left home in ninth grade and drifted a thousand miles away. No one cared for me, loved me, stood over me with an umbrella, or had my back.
Then I met a family who brought me meals, picked me up after work, and treated me with kindness. I thought they were my salvation, so I married into the family without hesitation.
I gave my whole heart to caring for my home, raising children, and honoring my in-laws. I made my marriage the only light in my life.
But he changed his heart, came home late, and flirted with someone else. In the end, he shoved me to the ground and said, “Just wait until we get divorced.”
He left home for two years. He never came back, never asked after me, and never gave me a cent.
I waited, cried, and begged. In the end, I was the one who asked for a divorce.
At 35, I had nothing and a child to raise. I had to start over.
It was only along the way that I understood:
If no one gives me warmth, I will give it to myself;
if no one brings me light, I will become the sun;
if I have no one to lean on, I will become my own support.
When your heart has no light, find your own way through and become the sun.
In this life, I will depend on no one, settle for nothing, and live on my own terms.
I have endured every hardship, and at last, I live for myself alone.
