The County Magistrate’s Farming and Immortal Cultivation

Xiao You, an agricultural university student, was tearing his hair out over his graduation thesis, “On Improving the Adaptability of Hybrid Spirit Rice in Barren Spirit Fields,” when he encountered a spatial rift on a bamboo-lined path outside the library and was sucked inside. When he opened his eyes again, he discovered he had been reborn as the unborn child of the magistrate’s wife in Qinglin County, a remote border county of the Great Qian Dynasty in a xianxia world. Carrying the agricultural knowledge and modern farming techniques he had learned in his previous life, Xiao You was born into a world rich in spiritual energy but with low productivity. When he was five, a plot against his father, the county magistrate, got the Xiao family demoted and sent to the even more remote Blackstone Town to serve as its mayor. The family fell into decline, and their spirit fields were taken away. Just as Xiao You was fretting over the family’s livelihood and seeing little success in trying to improve ordinary crops with the knowledge from his previous life, he unexpectedly activated the [Immortal Farmer Development System] in his mind. Rather than focusing on the usual battles and killing of cultivation aids, this System centers on indicators such as “Territory Prosperity,” “People’s Wellbeing Index,” and “Spiritual Energy Utilization Rate.” It assigns down-to-earth tasks like “cultivate ten acres of wasteland,” “improve the town’s water supply system,” and “grow first-tier spirit vegetables.” Completing tasks earns “System Points,” which can be used to exchange for practical spells such as the Minor Cloud-and-Rain Art (automatic watering), the Earth Vein Conditioning Technique (soil improvement), and the Golden Edge Cutting Art (efficient harvesting), or even directly improve his own meager “spiritual-root affinity.”
