Lin Yi, a master of history from Nanjing University, encountered a thunderstorm while simulating Ming Dynasty tax data in the laboratory and traveled to Yingtian Mansion in the 18th year of Hongwu. He fell drenched on the bank of the Qinhuai River and was discovered by the charioteer of Lu Ben, the minister of Taichang Temple. Lin Yi gained Lu Ben's trust by virtue of his accurate understanding of the Lu family history, and was temporarily taken in as a distant nephew.
