The tyrant Brandon ruled the city-state for twenty years. Heavy taxes, massacres, and public hangings of dissenters. He locked himself deep in the throne room without seeing anyone. Some said he was sick, others said he was crazy. No one knew he was turning into a monster.
General Alvin raised the flag of rebellion. Victor is just one of his many little bosses, in charge of fifteen people, and his task is to guard an insignificant side door. The coup succeeded. Brandon died, and his body rotted into ash in full view of the public, leaving behind deformed dark purple bones.
Victor picked up a fragment from the wreckage and stuffed it into his pocket. He didn't know why he did this.
Strange purple lines began to appear under the collarbone. The throne room in the distance was lit all night long, and Alvin stood beside the throne, his hands trembling. And Victor began to hear breathing sounds coming from the ground - low and slow, like something was waking up.
This is not a story about the rise of a hero. It's the beginning of a small character being slowly devoured by power, curses, and a man-eating throne.
Overthrow a tyrant and then become a tyrant. No one can escape the iron laws of this city-state.
