The heroine, Lin Wantang, is a stand-in for the male lead Gu Yanzhi’s lost love, his dead first love Shen Qingyi. Throughout three years as a stand-in, Lin Wantang is humble and patient, giving him everything, yet never receiving even a shred of genuine affection. When she finally decides to leave, she discovers the truth is far more complicated: she doesn’t merely “look like” Shen Qingyi. She is Shen Qingyi, the woman who lost her memory in a car accident and whose identity and memories Gu Yanzhi changed.
