He will keep it, but as an adult he no longer needs to see it. Those tenets were internalized into his instincts. On the last page of the notebook, there is a prophetic word written by the 16-year-old. The handwriting is immature but powerful enough to penetrate the back of the paper:
"I'm going to pay the price.
But before the price comes——
Let me enjoy this feast.
