The Beginning: Forced into Marriage by Desperation
The Cheng family’s business is in crisis, and Cheng Yue runs away from her wedding, unwilling to marry Tian Bao because she finds him “cold and hard to get along with.” Favoring their son over their daughters, her parents use family ties and tuition fees to blackmail Cheng Xi, an intern reporter, into taking her sister’s place and marrying Tian Bao.
A Whirlwind Marriage from the Start: A Cold-Blooded Contract
With nowhere else to turn, Cheng Xi agrees to sign a three-month marriage contract with Tian Bao: they will stay out of each other’s private lives, act like a married couple in public, and divorce amicably when the term ends. Tian Bao promises to help the Cheng family out of its predicament. In truth, he sees through the family’s schemes and takes the opportunity to help Cheng Xi escape.
A Surprising First Impression
Cheng Xi assumes Tian Bao is a “domineering devil,” only to discover that he is courteous and restrained. Tian Bao initially thinks Cheng Xi is a vain heiress, but then sees her staying up late to write articles and refusing to give in. His first impression begins to change.
Their First Clash
Cheng Xi insists on staying in her little rental apartment and turns down Tian Bao’s mansion. Tian Bao secretly shields her from the Cheng family’s unreasonable demands. They bicker over “boundaries,” while tension simmers between them.
