It is said that during the Yuanhe period of the Tang Dynasty, there was a public case in Chang'an City. Master Xuanzang of Hongfu Temple was originally the son of Chen Guangrui, a scholar of the former dynasty. When his father was on his way to take office, he was knocked down into the river by Liu Hong, the boatman, who took over his official title and his wife's family. When Xuanzang was eighteen years old, he found his biological mother and reported to the officials that he had captured his enemy. At the Jiangzhou ferry, he personally cut out the heart of the thief and sacrificed it to his late father.
Although this was a great act of filial piety, it was still the sin of killing. In memory of his father's loyalty, the imperial court exempted him from the death penalty, but removed his monk status and sent him to the border of the Western Regions to obtain a customs clearance document. On this trip, the mountains are high and the water is far away. There are many strongmen cutting paths and grass bandits occupying the mountains on the road. The imperial court then issued arrest documents and picked up three heavy-duty prisoners with murder cases from various death rows. They were given gold seals and served as porters to escort Xuanzang on his westward journey.
Among these three prisoners, one is called "Iron-headed Hozen" Sun Xingzhe, one is called "Curly-haired Tai Sui" Zhu Wuneng, and the other is called "Red-haired Ghost" Sha Wujing. Exactly: just because of injustice on the road, it causes trouble in the world.
