When the Wind Rises, I Think of You

Jiang Yu wrote “I like you.” Before the note had even warmed in her hands, Xu Nanxing was transferred to another school overnight by her mother. Her phone was confiscated, and she vanished without a trace. A year later, outside the gaokao exam hall, she opened the door. Jiang Yu said, “I still like her.” Lu Chenzhou stood at the very back, eyes lowered, saying nothing.

She left twice. The first time, she transferred schools. The second, she deleted every way to contact her. He waited for two years without saying a word. After she left, he simply learned to play the piano.

Only later did she find out that the person who took third place from her had eventually taken her heart, too. The quietest one had loved her the longest. The one who never said “I like you” had saved her photos in a folder called “Stars.”

This is a story about secret love, waiting, and reunion. Five people, one practice room, an entire youth. They drifted apart, then found their way back to one another.

If you, too, have a name you've never been able to say aloud, you'll see yourself in this book.
