The Eight Parts of the Heavenly Dragon: Sequel, by Jiang Feng

The Return of Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils is a meticulously crafted wuxia novel. Building on Jin Yong’s wuxia style, it adds historical depth and literary value, portraying the complex relations among the Song, Liao, Western Xia, Dali, Tubo, and other powers from 1086 to 1113, along with the grudges and passions of the martial world. The principal characters, including Xu Zhu, Duan Yu, and Li Qinglu, are vividly drawn, emotionally rich, and follow clear paths of growth. The plot unfolds with careful logic and a coherent chronology, reaching a satisfying conclusion. Its cultural character is distinctive, its historical atmosphere convincing, and its themes profound. This work is not merely a sequel to Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils, but also a continuation and development of the spirit of Jin Yong’s wuxia. I hope readers will feel the appeal of Jin Yong’s wuxia as they read, and reflect on timeless themes such as war and peace, the individual and the nation, and love and responsibility.
