A Sword Stirs the Chill, a Stream Brings Peace to the World

Amid the misty rains of Jiangnan, Xie Jinghan, master of the Cold River Sword, breaks the deadlock with a single strike and meets Zhao Lingxi, Princess of Yong’an, whose brilliance in strategy is matched only by her mastery of medicine and poison. Their meeting is written in the stars.

A counterfeit silver note leads them to a monstrous conspiracy by the Netherworld Sect to throw the realm into chaos. From then on, they stand shoulder to shoulder, wielding their swords to vanquish evil and their wits to restore peace as they journey across thousands of miles. They break the mechanisms of a deadly trap in the snowy wilderness, save countless people from disaster by the banks of the Yellow River, establish a trade route to bring prosperity along the Tea-Horse Road, and pass on the flame of martial arts atop Mount Wudang.

They defend the realm with heroic valor and pledge their lives to each other with tender devotion. From the blood-soaked world of the martial and political arenas to a quiet courtyard in Zhongnan where cooking smoke curls into the sky, they spend fifty years together, true to a promise. The violence of their sword-clashing past gives way to a homestead devoted to farming and study, and their story becomes the most moving, immortal legend in a century of martial history.
