My Good-for-Nothing Cousin Became a Gu Immortal

[Gu Insects] [Older Cousin] [Intelligence-Gathering] [Ruthless] The Floating Life Realm is a world where Gu Masters reign supreme. Here, Gu insects come in all kinds of wondrous forms and possess all sorts of miraculous abilities. People take pride in becoming Gu Masters who can control them. Our clan used to be powerful, because my grandfather was a fifth-rank Gu Master, just one rank away from becoming a Gu Immortal who could dominate heaven and earth! … Grandfather died in the Second Otherworlder War. My most admired uncle never returned from the battlefield either. After losing them both, our clan fell into decline. My favorite older cousin couldn’t accept it. He told me he was going out into the world and would lead the clan back to glory. He left the clan when he was eighteen. Ten years later, my cousin returned looking utterly defeated. He said that over the years, he had joined the Ancient Emperor Sect, one of the ten great ancient sects of Central Province, and had personally experienced the Third Otherworlder War. In the end, the Ancient Emperor Sect fell, and he had barely survived. But we knew that was just an excuse he’d made for his own incompetence. Someone from his background could never have joined one of the ten great sects. My cousin said that after the Ancient Emperor Sect fell, he had established a glorious merchant guild in the East, one that had even made a name for itself across half the region, only to be destroyed later by demonic Gu Masters. We understood that this was just a lie he’d made up to save face. After all, how could someone like him possibly have founded a trading company? In short, over the years, my cousin seemed to have gone from the person I admired most to a good-for-nothing who had achieved nothing. But lately, he seems to have changed.
