This is a story about "misplaced redemption."
In the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake, seven-year-old Shen Shi was crushed under the rubble while trying to save his classmate Lin Huisheng. He suffered a spinal cord injury and was confined to a wheelchair for the rest of his life. Lin Huisheng survived, but she chose to "forget" due to a huge sense of guilt - her family took her to move, she changed her name and started a new life.
Sixteen years later, the 23-year-old Shen Shi became an unpopular cultural relic restorer. He was taciturn, locked himself in his studio, and refused all social interactions. Lin Huisheng has become a well-known documentary director. In order to shoot a series about "time and memory", she received a project - to follow a cultural relic restorer.
Neither man knows the other's true identity. Shen Shi recognized her but didn't tell her. Lin Huisheng vaguely felt that there was something familiar about this restorer, but he couldn't remember it.
During the three months of filming, the two gradually got closer. Shen Shi thought that he could pretend that the incident had never happened, that he was just an ordinary restorer, and that he didn't love her. But when Lin Huisheng was sorting out old things, he dug out old newspapers from that year's earthquake. In the photo, a little girl covered in blood was being held by a firefighter. The title read, "Under the rubble, the boy used his body to protect his classmates."
That little girl's face is her own.
