[Dual Leads, Transmigration, Court Intrigue, Sweet and Angsty Romance]
It was the twenty-eighth year of the Yonghe reign, and New Year’s Eve was just around the corner.
The former emperor died, and the Eastern Palace went up in flames.
Crown Prince Xiao Yu narrowly escaped death and fled to Jiangnan, where he was saved by Su Wanwan, a woman who had transmigrated.
Second Prince Xiao Jing was forced to ascend the throne.
Shen Qingci, the crown prince’s intended consort, was consumed by grief. Mistakenly believing Xiao Jing had set the Eastern Palace fire to seize the throne, she faked her death and entered the palace as a servant to seek revenge.
The capital was awash in blood and fire, while spring brought gentle rain and warmth to Jiangnan. At the same time, the fates of two couples took separate paths. One story begins in heartbreak, the other in sweetness.
[Bonus Scene]
Xiao Yu × Su Wanwan
Xiao Yu drew her into his arms, resting his chin lightly against the crown of her head as he breathed in the faint scent of gardenias in her hair. His voice was full of gratitude. “In my heart, I’ve never been a crown prince or an emperor. I’m just Xiao Yu, the man Su Wanwan saved. If you hadn’t rescued me when I was in danger and given me a place to stay in this cloth shop, I might already be buried in a foreign land. Wanwan, you gave me the warmth of an ordinary life. For the rest of my life, I’ll stay by your side and protect this peaceful land.”
Xiao Jing × Shen Qingci
Xiao Jing’s heart warmed. He clasped her hand tightly and spoke with solemn conviction. “Once my elder brother takes the throne, I’ll lay down this heavy burden of emperorship and take you to the frontier. We’ll see the smoke rising over the desert and the sun setting over the great river. We’ll live the unrestrained life you want, no longer trapped behind these palace walls.”
