Xie Bi'an is twenty-five, unemployed, nearly out of savings, and most proud of the fact that he has worn the finish off his phone from playing with it so much.
One night, a video about “history's ten most tragic regrets” keeps him awake with anger. He curses Zhao Gao, denounces Qin Hui, and weeps for Yue Fei. Then his phone comes to life. A thing called the “Dynasties Connect System” forcibly binds itself to his phone, claiming it can connect to different eras and save historical figures who were dealt an unfair hand by fate.
The first message to pop up is from Li Si, chancellor of the Qin dynasty. At the time, Li Si has been framed and imprisoned by Zhao Gao, and is due to be cut in half in public in three days.
Xie Bi'an looks at the white-haired old man's profile picture on his phone, takes a deep breath, and types his first message: “Chancellor Li, don't panic. I'm here to save you.”
With a voice recorder, a scheme to sow discord, and help from Prince Ying Ziying, a barrage of modern-day tricks leaves Zhao Gao publicly disgraced in court, and Li Si lives to see another day.
But this is only the beginning. The System tells him there are countless others waiting to be saved. Yue Fei, Yuan Chonghuan, Han Xin, Fusu... one after another, the names of history's most heartbreaking regrets line up to send him friend requests.
And so, a “historical emergency rescue” operation spanning two thousand years launches in the rented apartment of an unemployed college graduate.
