During the Republican era, a series of bizarre murders breaks out in Beiping. Each victim bears the characteristics of a demon beast described in the ancient text Classic of Mountains and Seas. Shen Jingyuan, a folklorist returned from studying abroad, and Gu Yelan, a retired military officer, discover during their investigation that someone is using a lost book, the Compendium of Demons from the Mountains and Seas. The legendary monsters are not fictional: they are “demon-blooded” beings living among humanity. As they dig deeper, they uncover a shocking secret that has endured for three thousand years: seven great demon-sealing arrays lie buried across the land of Huaxia. If all of them are broken, the sleeping ancient demon gods will return to the mortal world.
