"Sixty Degrees North" is a long epic that spans half a century and the fate of three generations. It uses family narratives as its warp and the 40-year dramatic changes in Chinese society to outline a magnificent spiritual picture from the South China Sea fishing villages to the Nordic ice fields.
Volume 1: Memory of the South (1980-2019)
In 1982, the seaside of Leizhou Peninsula. My grandfather, Xiang Shuhan, used shrimp ponds to earn the family's first pot of gold under the "household quota" policy. He adhered to the ancient motto of "farming, studying and passing down the family inheritance" and pinned his hopes on the education of his grandchildren. His father, Xiang Yong, became an adventurer in the early days of reform and opening up. From maritime smuggling to industrial management, he accumulated wealth in gray areas and built white-tiled buildings that symbolized "whitewashing." However, he was trapped in the quagmire of power and desire. Sun Tzu Xiangbei lived up to expectations and grew from a talented student at Tsinghua University to an upstart real estate agent in Guangzhou, completing a class leap in the game of capital and power. However, a sudden political storm in 2019 completely destroyed everything he had built, and he was forced to flee in panic.
Volume 2: Nordic Purgatory (2019-2022)
In Stockholm, Sweden, the former "General Xiang" became a refugee numbered SE-2019-03876. He stayed in a shelter center, cleaned office buildings late at night, washed dishes in the kitchen of restaurants, rushed to buy last-minute food in supermarkets, and learned the most basic survival Swedish in language classes. Falling from the top of the pyramid to the bottom of society, he experienced a complete collapse of identity, dignity and cognition. In the harsh Nordic winter and the long wait for refugee approval, he was forced to face the sins and vanity of the past, and met refugees from all over the world. In a desperate situation, he began a difficult spiritual journey.
