Transmigrating to the Republic of China’s Whampoa Academy: I’m No Fellow Townsman of Fenghua

Lin Chen is a modern military-history enthusiast obsessed with the history of the Republic of China who can recite every battle of the War of Resistance from memory. One moment he is poring over Huangpu Academy records; the next, he has been hurled onto the streets of Guangzhou in 1924.

The original owner of his body was a poor scholar who joined an anti-warlord protest and was knocked unconscious with a stick. He had a burning desire to save his country, but could not even protect his own life. Lin Chen is different. He knows that no matter how sharp a scholar’s pen may be, it cannot stand up to guns and cannons in this era. If he wants to survive and truly make a difference, there is only one path: abandon the pen, join the army, and seize power with a gun.

The Huangpu Military Academy happens to be recruiting, and he signs up without hesitation.

At the entrance exam, everyone mocks him for his frail appearance, but a single physical test is enough to silence them all. After enrolling, he stands out among his fellow cadets with military theories and tactical insight far ahead of his time, earning his instructors’ praise as “a military genius seen only once in a century.”

He first shows his mettle in the Eastern Expedition against Chen Jiongming, then repeatedly distinguishes himself in the Northern Expedition against the warlords. From platoon leader to company commander, from regimental commander to army commander, he carves out a path through this chaotic age of warlord conflict and encroaching foreign powers, one hard-won victory at a time.
