The Heavenly Secrets Ruler

The Heavenly Secret Ruler: “This is not a story about being ‘invincible,’ but a chronicle of how to hold fast to one’s principles amid life’s uncertainties.”

Chen Qingming was born on the eastern Henan plains and grew up with his grandfather, the fortune-teller “Chen the Immortal.” When he was eight, he secretly touched three Qianlong-era coins on his grandfather’s desk. That night, he came down with a high fever and babbled deliriously, glimpsing strange figures all over the house. From then on, the “taboo of the west room” was branded into his bones: he must never touch a tortoise shell, copper coins, or the Book of Changes, or he would invite evil spirits to possess him.

Before his death, his grandfather left him three rules: never touch ill-gotten wealth, never meddle in another person’s karma, and never offer help without limits. He also left him this maxim: “Fortune-telling is about reading fate and cultivating the heart. See through things, but don’t expose them. Know people, but don’t judge them. Help those in urgent need, not those who are merely poor. Save those in danger, not those who are lazy.” Yet after his grandfather was buried, a note tucked inside the Book of Changes and the unsolved legend of the “Heavenly Secret Ruler” became the spark that set Chen Qingming’s fate on a new course.

After his grandfather died saving him on Changbai Mountain, Chen Qingming set out on a journey that quietly awakened a thousand-year-old conflict among the Five Traditions: the five esoteric schools of geomancy, medicine, fate, physiognomy, and divination. The emergence of the Heavenly Secret Ruler shattered their pact. The mysterious organization known as the Heavenly Secret Pavilion was also plotting in secret, seeking to use three taboo artifacts to restart the Heavenly Way and overturn the balance of yin and yang.

As Chen Qingming investigates, he gradually awakens to the truth: the copper coins and tortoise shell in his possession are fragments of the Heavenly Secret Ruler, and his grandfather’s three rules are the ultimate principles for protecting the fate of the mortal world.
