In 2010, in a fishing village on the coast of Fujian Province, 23-year-old Lin Hai had just graduated from a technical school and couldn’t seem to land a job. His father, Lin Jianmin, was an honest, down-to-earth fisherman. His mother, Wang Xiulan, helped out at the village grocery store, and the family also included his 68-year-old grandfather, Lin Dewang, a veteran fisherman. The family of four squeezed into an old stone house built in the 1980s, making their living at the mercy of the weather.
Just as Lin Hai was feeling lost about his future, he happened to go beachcombing. Suddenly, a mysterious “Ocean Treasure-Hunting System” appeared in his mind. It offered no immortality cultivation or cash rewards, but it could help him locate hidden seafood, predict the tides, and assess the value of his catch.
