Ji Huaixu, a top-tier investor, wakes up in a melodramatic novel set in the 1990s, inhabiting the body of a villainous male side character who recklessly brings about his own downfall and eventually gets kicked out of the house. The original owner not only squandered the family fortune chasing after the protagonist, but was also forced to marry He Zheng, the factory owner's son with powerful connections: a spoiled rich kid who drives a Santana, wears a gold chain, and talks big.
To escape his fate as cannon fodder, Ji Huaixu decides to return to his old line of work. He hides in the attic and trades stocks on a computer, starting with thirty thousand yuan and expertly capitalizing on every market swing. He thinks he's keeping it all under wraps, until he notices He Zheng looking at him more and more strangely.
One day, He Zheng corners him against a wall. “Wifey, where did the eight-digit sum in your account come from?”
Ji Huaixu pushes up his glasses. “Financial innovation. Also, the notes in the copy of Macroeconomics in your study are in the same handwriting as your love letters.”
The air falls silent for three seconds.
He Zheng smiles. “So... you knew from the beginning that I wasn't really a spoiled rich kid?”
Ji Huaixu: “Weren't you the same?”
The two master actors are exposed at the same time. Their mutual probing turns into a romance, and together they unleash a financial storm in the 1990s. He Zheng handles earning money and supporting the family, while Ji Huaixu makes the money grow, and also thoroughly trounces the original owner's awful relatives and the novel's protagonists.
