I'm Just a Small-Town Factory Owner, So Paying Billions in Taxes Is Normal

In his previous life, he worked himself to the brink of liver cancer at an electronics factory in Shenzhen, and couldn’t even afford the deposit for emergency treatment.

Given a second chance at life, Lu Changming returns to his dilapidated hometown of Ningchuan County, where nine out of ten homes stand empty and only elderly people and children remain. He binds himself to the “Hometown Development System”: every day, it gives him 100 yuan for each person who returns from working elsewhere to find a job in the county.

The county has a full 134,000 people working away from home. If he brings them all back, that’s 13.4 million yuan a day.

To get people to return, Lu Changming starts building factories, offering generous benefits, and pouring money into infrastructure across the county.

“Factory shifts are only eight hours a day, weekends off, a monthly salary of 8,000 yuan, and full social insurance and housing fund contributions!”

“Three meals a day at the factory, all the meat you can eat, and we’ll build a kindergarten and a nursing home right on the premises!”

“Your children won’t have to grow up left behind, and your parents won’t have to wait alone to die.”

Gradually, the owners of the big coastal factories panic.

“What the hell? Why have all my Level 8 fitters and top welders, people who’ve worked here for ten years, quit and gone back to that poor backwater in the middle of nowhere?!”

As top talent from all over the world pours into this little city, Lu Changming looks at the money piling up day after day like a rolling snowball and sighs helplessly.

“To begin with, I just wanted the little girl next door, Yaya, to have a hot meal cooked by her dad every day...”
