[No romance + a family full of rebels + goofy slackers + a tyrant who dotes on his children + subverting expectations]
Chu Luoci wakes up as the expendable ninth princess in a story about a fight for the throne. Her entire family is meant to be a stepping stone for the male lead, the Fourth Prince.
Warnings from the original plot blare at her: Start fighting for power in the palace at once, and turn your fate around!
Chu Luoci glances at her gentle but short-lived eldest brother, then at her clueless second brother, and gives up on the whole thing. “We can’t compete at all. Let’s just live off our parents.”
And so, the Great Chu Dynasty undergoes a dramatic change of tone.
In the original story, the three siblings fought fiercely for the throne. Now they sit in a row on the steps of Taihe Hall, cracking sunflower seeds.
The eldest brother, the crown prince: “Whoever wants this lousy position can have it. I want to move to the countryside and raise pigs.”
The second brother: “This golden-faced cricket is definitely going to win! I’m betting everything on it!”
Chu Luoci: “Father, Fourth Brother’s been calling us useless behind our backs again!”
The officials of the court are terrified, convinced that these three fools are about to be dragged outside and executed by the tyrant.
But the decisive, ruthless tyrant slaps the arm of his throne and shouts, “The Fourth Prince dared to interrupt your growing up?! Guards, raid his residence and use the money to buy snacks for the princess!”
Fourth Prince: “??? Wait, I haven’t even started a rebellion yet!”
It's so beautiful, I can't stop laughing
