The son of a boatman at the Chongming Wharf in Shanghai, his father, Lu Shanhai, was a "shorekeeper" on the nine-section coastline. During the flood in 1998, he was faked and died in an accident because he broke into the shady story of the port authorities embezzling flood control funds and cutting corners. He has a forbearing and meticulous personality, ruthless attacks but adheres to the bottom line. He started by avenging his father, and finally unified the nine shores, rewrote the century-old underground order, and became the guardian of the convention instead of a dictator.
