The story's most immediate driving force is "solving mysteries." As deputy commissioner of the Imperial Astronomy Bureau, Su Ci must uncover the truth behind the "Nine Mirrors Soul-Locking Formation" within ten days and stop a series of murders in the palace. Behind it lies a supernatural struggle between two ancient bloodlines, "Xuanji" and "Lieyang," as well as the grudges left behind by the great fire at Ninghua Palace twenty years ago.
