[Wild historical-era fiction + Hong Kong style + comedy + romantic tension + strong heroine + wish fulfillment]
[Unhinged, fiercely independent heroine vs. obsessive, scheming hero]
No golden finger. The heroine works her way up from the bottom to become a movie star, relying on no one.
Jiang Yue transmigrates into a book, landing in a wildly over-the-top historical-era novel she’d left a scathing review for. The story is set in 1980s Hong Kong.
From the start, she sleeps with the hero, then pulls up her pants and runs.
Her stepmother annoys her? She hits her. Her biological father? She snaps back at him. Her stepsister? She beats her up. Her motto is equality for all.
After being drugged, she escapes from home, only to run straight into the hero she’d slept with and then refused to acknowledge.
The hero is obsessive and domineering, the quintessential CEO type. (Maybe a little too much of a CEO type. I think the more serious he is, the funnier it gets.)
“Woman, you’ve successfully caught my attention.” He takes Jiang Yue home and demands that she take responsibility for him.
“You slept with me, so you have to take responsibility.”
“You’re the one who slept with me.”
“Then I’ll sleep with you, and I’ll take responsibility for you.”
And so begins the chase: she runs, he pursues, and she can’t escape even if she grows wings.
After Jiang Yue struggles her way up and puts up with the hero doggedly clinging to her, she finally builds a career of her own.
Zhou Fuye is a hopeless romantic, ruthless and vicious, but turns into an idiot the moment he sees his wife.
His whole life is either spent catching his wife or chasing after her. He swears she will take responsibility for him, even if it kills him.
At first, Jiang Yue is a little afraid of this demon who kills without batting an eye. Later, she realizes he isn’t a demon at all. He’s a Peter Pan dog.
And so she becomes more and more wicked, teasing Zhou Fuye whenever she gets the chance.
Zhou Fuye is more than happy to be her dog.
“You have to take responsibility for me, or I’ll cry.”
“Do whatever you want.”
“Waaaaah!”
