In 2020, "miracles" began to appear all over the world - gods and monsters from human myths, religions, and legends came to the world in physical form. These beings are collectively referred to as "upper bodies."
But the gods who descend are not the benevolent guardians that humans imagine them to be. They trample on the human world, devour souls, distort reality, and turn cities into purgatory. What's even weirder is that these gods are "unkillable" - no matter how many physical attacks they suffer, they will be reborn within 24 hours.
