No one knew that he had faked his death through a trick that had deceived Heaven, escaping into the remnants of the grotto. As the spiritual powers of the Three Teachings devoured one another, he struggled to survive through unbearable pain. He had cultivated the Confucian, Daoist, and Buddhist ways, and had once been a Second Sage of Confucianism, a Daoist True Person, and a Buddhist Venerable. He secretly protected Chen Ping'an, made amends for regrets from his past, and maneuvered among masters of the Three Teachings;
He stood against the conservative, obstinate leaders of the Three Teachings, while suppressing the evil cult of Gui Xu, which plotted to plunge the world into chaos.
