The person Shen Juezhou, head of the criminal investigation unit, least wants to see in his life is Bo Siyan.
This parachuted-in special consultant wears floral shirts, lounges with his legs crossed, and talks nonsense nonstop. Everything about him screams “unreliable.” And yet the higher-ups specifically ordered him to join the investigation into the latest string of murders. The victims are dressed in red, strange symbols are painted on the walls, and not a single unnecessary trace is left at the scenes.
The same symbols appeared on the walls fifteen years ago at the massacre at Cuiping Mountain Villa.
That case was the lifelong obsession of Shen Juezhou’s mentor, and an unsolved mystery no one in the police force wants to bring up.
“The killer isn’t murdering people,” Bo Siyan says. “He’s making a sacrifice.”
“I only believe in evidence,” Shen Juezhou replies.
“Then just wait for the next victim.”
Sparks fly between them from the moment they meet: one is full of dirty jokes, the other meets him with a cold stare; one excels at psychological manipulation, the other trusts only physical evidence. But the case won’t wait. As the “Eye of Sunset” lights up again and again, they have no choice but to put aside their prejudices and work together to catch the killer.
From the south of the city to the east, from the city to a lonely island, from a string of murders to a long-buried cold case, they are chasing more than the killer. They are chasing the truth that made everyone fall silent fifteen years ago.
And when the truth finally comes to light, Shen Juezhou discovers that Bo Siyan never got close to him to solve the case.
A suspenseful investigation, two formidable men working together, going from constant bickering to perfect understanding, from partners to entrusting each other with their lives.
As the sun sets, we’ll find our way home together.
