A real “person,” not a “god”: At this point, Chu Tianqiu has yet to don the perfect mask of a “savior.” We get to see his original fear, confusion, and kindness, and how the “Endland” gradually crushes these qualities and remakes him into the complex schemer he becomes. The process itself is tragic in a way that is hauntingly beautiful.
