Buddhism: Is This Guanyin Crazy?!

Overworked office drone Su Xiaoxiao dies suddenly and transmigrates into Guanyin's body as a “heart demon.” One of them is determined to protect Tang Sanzang as he completes his pilgrimage and overcomes his trials to attain sainthood; the other wants to tear up Buddhism's script and go home. The two fight for control of the body, turning Journey to the West into a madhouse spanning all three realms: one moment she's urging Tang Sanzang to “endure humiliation for the greater good,” the next she's stuffing a stainless-steel dagger into his hands; she tells Wukong to “take refuge in Buddhism,” then turns around and eggs him on to “tear down mountains and pick a fight with Heaven.” Buddhism cries, “Guanyin has gone mad!” Heaven declares, “The Bodhisattva has lost her mind!” Only Tang Sanzang hugs his “little black book of dirt” and cries, “Lady Guanyin is right!” In the end, she smashes the barrier around Mount Ling and leads the Buddha-rejecting master and disciples back to Chang'an. Being alive is far more interesting than becoming a saint.
