The original owner used a pure, popular classmate’s photo to catfish online, but her target was the heir to a tycoon family who would one day drown her and feed her to the fish.
Looking at the cold message in their chat history, “Let’s meet tomorrow”, and the pitiful balance in her bank account, Lin Lu decides that if she wants to survive, she’ll have to play along, scam this gullible, loaded “big fish” for all he’s worth, and then run!
And so begins the push and pull between a master actress and the ultimate true-love warrior.
Lin Lu: “I was in a car accident and have temporary amnesia. I can’t meet you.”
Pei Yanzhou (imagining things): She’s so kind. She’s downplaying it so I won’t worry! Send her money right away!
Lin Lu: “My family went bankrupt. I’m drowning in loan-shark debt, and debt collectors chase me every day.”
Pei Yanzhou (imagining things): She’s so proud, yet she’s willing to ask me for help. She must be madly in love with me! Send her money right away!
Lin Lu: “I have a terminal illness and not much time left. I’m going to fake my death. Don’t think of me.”
Pei Yanzhou (imagining things): She chose to face death alone so she wouldn’t drag me down! She... Wait, where is she?!
Just as Lin Lu thinks she’s successfully faked her death and prepares to start her rich-woman life with a suitcase stuffed with tens of millions, she gets cornered at the airport.
Leaning against the car door, the man smiles without warmth. His voice is dangerous: “Not terminally ill anymore? Keep lying.”
After getting caught, Lin Lu is forced into a wage-slave life of “working off her debt,” only to discover that this big shot’s thought process is stranger than she could ever have imagined.
When his friend challenges him, “Have you lost your mind? You actually like a gold digger who only has money in her eyes?”
Pei Yanzhou answers with complete confidence: “She scams me because she loves me. Otherwise, why doesn’t she scam you?”
