In 1975, at the end of the Cultural Revolution, the movement of educated youth to the countryside came to an end. Returning to the city was an obsession engraved in the blood of millions of educated youth.
Shen Yan was reborn as an educated youth who had just been to the countryside for a month in Shiwa Village in the north. His mother was critically ill and urgently needed to return to her hometown to take care of her. But in front of him was a contiguous saline-alkali land with a yield of less than 200 kilograms per mu, and villagers living on relief. Wang Jianguo was targeted at every aspect of the educated youth center, and there were layers of checks and approvals for returning to the city.
In a desperate situation, Shen Yan unlocked the points system and exchanged technical knowledge by solving people's livelihood problems. He first saved the lifeline of the whole village - the critically ill cattle were able to regain their footing, and then gnawed the saline-alkali land that no one could treat. He doubled the yield per mu of experimental fields, led the village to counterattack from a "relief village" to a "surplus grain village", and gradually earned enough qualifications to return to the city.
But just when the place to return to the city was obtained, officialdom's schemes and villain backstabbing followed one after another, and the mudslide caused by the heavy rain pushed the whole village to a dead end. With his critically ill relatives on one side and the villagers who saw him as hope on the other, Shen Yan made a life-changing decision and embarked on a grand journey from rural revitalization to technological rejuvenation in this barren land.
