The Rugged Man and His Substitute Bride

Rural eastern Henan, 1982. Orphan Su Wan is forced by her adoptive parents to marry in someone else's place, becoming the wife of Lu Zheng, the roughest and poorest man in the village. Everyone laughs that her life is worthless and that marrying a dark, burly brute means a lifetime of misery. But who could have guessed that this taciturn man, his hands covered in calluses, would cherish her like a queen? Afraid she'd be cold, he rushes to seal the windows overnight. Afraid she'd go hungry, he saves every egg for her. If anyone dares say a bad word about her, he grabs his hoe and goes after them. He works himself to the bone hauling bricks and farming, all to build her a brick house and buy her a floral blouse. To everyone else, he's a fearsome brute, but to her, he's a gentle source of strength. They marry first and fall in love later, growing closer with each passing day. The orphan finds a home, and the rough man finds his one weakness. In the barren 1980s, with the clumsiest but most sincere love, he turns their hard life into something sweet.
