Zhang Jian was someone the world had forgotten.
His parents died fighting a beast horde outside the city, and their compensation was skimmed away at every level. He grew up hungry and spent ten years training in martial arts, only to become a useless fighter who had barely mastered the first level of strength. He thought this was all his life would ever be: living in a rented room, under the shadow of his parents, forever unable to reach the threshold of hidden strength.
Then the Main God Space found him.
“Go and save those lost souls,” said the beam of light. “Save one, and you’ll be one step closer to the light. You can become anyone, as long as you’re willing to reach out your hand.”
In the first world, he met Shen Hui.
Twenty years old, fair and handsome, yet treated as an outsider by everyone because he was poor and withdrawn. He gave all his tenderness to someone he should never have loved, unaware that his love was pushing him toward an abyss. Zhang Jian transmigrated into that world and became his roommate. He didn’t lecture him or act like a savior. He simply offered him a carton of milk and a piece of bread, and sat by his side when he was loneliest.
Shen Hui asked him, “Why are you so kind to me?”
Zhang Jian said, “Because you deserve it too.”
It wasn’t just a polite thing to say. In countless worlds that followed, Zhang Jian said the same thing to everyone trapped in darkness.
In the second world, he met a boy bullied at school. In the third, a little boy abandoned by his birth family. The fourth world, the fifth world... Every world had souls crushed by fate, people struggling to survive in the abyss.
Zhang Jian wasn’t a hero. He was just someone the world had let down too.
