The Soldier Next Door

Su Shu is an utterly ordinary romance novelist with two great passions in life: writing sweet romances and looking at handsome men.

One day, while cooking instant noodles in the kitchen, she glanced through the window opposite and spotted a bare-chested man:

Eight-pack abs, a V-line, broad shoulders and a narrow waist.

In a flash of inspiration, she wrote a sizzling 30,000-word hit chapter about military life.

Then someone reported her.

At the police station, an officer pointed to her statement and asked, “Who was the real-life inspiration for ‘Instructor Lu’?”

Su Shu refused to tell them, no matter what.

The officer threatened to detain her.

She broke down. “He’s my next-door neighbor!”

And so Lu Chen, a retired special forces soldier, was summoned to the police station.

He looked at the “colorful depiction” of himself and said, expressionless,

“So in your story, I have that much stamina.”

Su Shu wanted the earth to swallow her whole.

And things got even worse:

From then on, this soldier moved right into her life.

He brought her breakfast every morning, made her go to bed at two in the morning, and even won over her cat.

He said, “Next time you write about me, you can just ask me to check the details.”

She thought, Check what? Whether you really have eight-pack abs?

Later, she discovered that he had every one of her books on his shelf.

He said, “Your novels once saved me.”

She asked, “So are you here to repay me?”

He looked at her. “I'm not repaying a debt. I like you.”

Su Shu thought this was the start of a sweet romance.

She never expected childhood friends, a house being sold, and being forced to live together...

At last, she understood:

Life wasn't a novel she'd written, but it was even more addictive.
