Secretary, Take the Lead

Investment Bank Managing Director: Your lips look a little purple. Is something wrong with your heart?

Shen Zhaoning: You think you can stay up later than I can?

One moment, she was a VP at a Wall Street investment bank, working late until a fatal heart attack killed her. The next, she had transmigrated into a melodramatic novel about a wealthy family, becoming the arrogant, domineering, relentlessly clingy villainess who gets her engagement broken off, goes bankrupt, and loses everything.

It’s hell from the start.

The phone rings: “Ms. Shen, the Gu family plans to announce the end of your engagement at the banquet.”

A lawyer’s letter arrives: “Ms. Shen, according to your father’s will, if you are unmarried before the age of thirty, 40% of the shares in Zhaoning Group will automatically be transferred to your stepmother.”

She checks the calendar: 29 years and 11 months old. The countdown is on: 30 days.

Everyone is waiting to watch her die.

Her stepmother is smiling, her fiancé is about to run, the company’s stock price has been cut in half, and there are only 80 million left in the accounts. Creditors are pounding on the door, demanding payment. Worse still, someone has discovered that her CFO is leaking information to a rival, while her fiancé’s family is secretly shorting her company, hoping to swallow all of Zhaoning Group at a bargain price before she takes her last breath.

Too bad they don’t know someone else has taken over this body.
