In the eleventh year of Tongzhi (1872), the Qing Empire swayed under the fire of foreigners for thirty years. A group of teenagers set sail from the Shanghai Pier, crossed the Pacific Ocean, and set foot on American soil, becoming the first batch of government-sponsored overseas students in modern China. They don't know that fifteen years is too long, and by the time they come back, everything will be different.
