In the ten years of the Republic of China, the south bank of the Yellow River suffered a severe drought that had never happened in a century. The ground was cracked like a spider web, and cracked mud was exposed on the river bed. There was not even a straw to be found in the fields that were once full of crops. Starvation was everywhere in the village, and the bark of the trees was stripped off. Guanyin soil became the last food to satisfy her hunger. She followed her relatives on the road to escape. Behind her was her homeland swallowed by yellow sand, and in front of her was a thousand miles of endless road.
It is normal to eat and sleep in the open. During the days when people are hungry, some people abandon their relatives for a mouthful of grain porridge, and some people add a handful of firewood to strangers in a dilapidated temple on a cold night. She has seen the darkest ravines in human nature, and also encountered the gentlest light in the wilderness - the young man carrying the medicine box, when she fell into the icy river, wrapped her frozen body in a coarse cloth, protected her from the wind and snow on the long road to escape, and whispered under the stars: "No matter how far the desert road is, I will walk with you."
The road to escape from famine is painful, but human love can bloom wild flowers in barren soil.
