The modern city hides a world of the dead alongside the world of the living. Break a taboo, and restless spirits will appear at once.
Picking up jade buried with the dead brings ancestral spirits seeking your life. Calling out to a soul at midnight summons a procession of ghosts. The ghost market, funeral homes, and forbidden places for the living are all deadly traps.
Lin Ze, heir to a tradition of witchcraft and gu magic, joins forces with Su Yan, whose bloodline can soothe restless souls. Together, they uphold folk traditions, break evil formations, guide vengeful spirits to rest, and destroy wicked practitioners.
Burdened by a debt to the dead and gravely wounded in spirit, Lin Ze survives thanks to an ancestral spirit burning its own essence to sustain his life. In the end, he becomes a traveler between yin and yang, using witchcraft and gu magic to suppress ten thousand ghosts and secure peace for the living year after year.
